Summer of Creative Chemistry: Week 8

I know you're wondering what happened to week 7. Week 7 frustrated me with a gusto. I just could not get my alcohol inks to look anything like something I would like to post. So, I put things away for awhile and decided to sew a new purse.

Week 8, I chose to do some leafing with the sticky powder. Dug out my favorite tulip stamp from Club Scrap's Nature's Wonders kit and went to town.

I made distress in backgrounds with Evergreen Bough, Peeled Paint, Victorian Velvet and Dusty Concord. The green one is on regular white cardstock and the purple is on watercolor paper.  I also diecut some Fanciful Florishes out of the same paper as the card.  I'll choose a sentiment when I get ready to send them.

Summer of Creative Chemistry: Week 6

Some very cool stencil techniques to try this week. I chose to do the Embossing Through a Stencil technique and the Stamping Through a Stencil technique. I made 2 tags for scrapbook pages this week.

First one just uses the embossing technique with Tattered Rose, Aged Mohagony and Pine Needles distress inks, some very old rub ons and golf stickers.

Here is the scrapbook page I created using the tag. My dad and hubby at one of the annual Canterwood Invitational golf tournaments they golfed in 1995.

The second tag I used both techniques on with Mustard Seed, Festive Berries and Chipped Sapphire distress. The stamping didn't work as well as I would have liked because of the embossing powder, but it was ok since I was adding embellishments.

And here is the layout I used the tag on. My friend from childhood, Beth and I at I'm thinking the Puyallup Fair, but it's been about 40 or so years so that's what I'm going with.

Summer of Creative Chemistry: Marbled Paint

I love the way the Marbled Paint technique gives such a rich looking background. I made 3 tags to go on a layout of some Chihuly pictures from the Phoenix Botanical Garden exhibition.

For the large tag and top tag on the picture below. I used Picket Fence, Fired Brick, Wild Honey and Mustard Seed Distress Paints. Then I enhanced with Mustard Seed and Wild Honey Distress Inks and then edged with Rusty Hinge.

For the bottom tag in the above photo, I used Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Festive Berries, Fired Brick and Picket Fence Distress Paint and enhanced with Mustard Seed and Wild Honey inks. Edged with Frayed Burlap.

I used the tags to embellish this Chihuly layout. The papers are from Club Scraps vintage kit Salsa. The black acetate embellishments are from Painted Desert and the flowers are all hand made using Tim Holtz dies and scrap paper.

Happy 4th of July!

In honor of America's 240th birthday I created Lucky Lucy! She started out as an old crab float found on the beach. The red, white and blue colors dictated the direction I was going in and the red lips found in my box of found treasures were the impetus for it becoming a doll.

This is the float before I started altering it. I chose to use the side shown in the top photo as the face.

And here is a layout of the finished product. She has some dollar store froo froo for hair and a cascade of paper flowers across her brow. Her lips were an old refrigerator magnet, nose is a calligraphy pen nib and the eyes are a bead glued onto a plastic doodad found at the Creation Station in Lynwood, Washington.

Summer of Creative Chemistry: Week 4 Archival Resist

I really love the vibrancy you get with this the Archival Resist technique. I started out just thinking I would make a card, but it evolved into an 8x10 mixed media piece instead.

The resists were actually some different permanent inks I have in my stash. The red was a chalk ink I've had forever and it's still going strong. The teal was staz on, Distress inks: Mustard Seed, Fired Brick, Broken China and Spiced Marmalade. Jet Black Archival for the images. Several flowers made from the Tattered Florals die and some broken jewelry pieces.

Summer of Creative Chemistry, Perfect Pearls Distressed

I decided to try the Perfect Distress technique for the challenge this week.  My first card uses Chipped Sapphire, Iced Spruce, Broken China and Walnut Stain Distress and Blue Patina Perfect Pearls.

The stamp if from Club Scrap's Cape Cod collection and the base paper and embellishments are K&Co.


The next card uses Dusty Concord, Chipped Sapphire, Iced Spruce, Broken China, Tumbled Glass, Milled Lavender and Old Paper Distress with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls.

The Stamp is from CS Birds of a Feather collection and the paper and embellishments are K&Co.
