Documented Live Weeks 3 & 4

Week 3 was to use an envelope you received in the mail. I stretched this to using a glacine envelope I received in an exchange at my Altered Art group. I colored it with alcohol inks and then stamped with um's from the Postcards from Paris collection from Club Scrap. Added a couple of my Creative Chemistry tags and some altered diecuts to finish it off.

Week 4 was to write a favorite quote out, then cover all but one word with white paint and go from there. I chose a quilt about art by Andy Warhol, then did some gelato drippage from the bottom of the page. Added some wildflower clearstamps and some K&Co diecuts.

Documented Life Week 2--Selfie!

Still catching up on these since I started late. Week 2's theme for the DLP is Selfie. I found these 2 pictures of me and really like how the position I'm sitting in complements each of them. They are taken about 20 years apart. It's essentially a paper collage of bits and pieces of Club Scrap kits I've collected over the years and I love the main quote. It came as an umounted rubber stamp in the 2012 CS Retreat kit By the Numbers.

Some of the kits used here: Gratitude, Wheel and Sprocket, Collections, Simply Avant, Egyptian. Plus some flowers and bling from my stash. On to week 3. I think week 4 posts today, so I'm almost up to speed!

Documented Life Project

I started the Documented Life Project over at Art to the 5th (see the badge to the left). After combing through all the planners at Freddies and just not liking anything I saw, I dug through some journals that I've had sitting around with nothing in them. Sad to say, I seem to like making journals, but I'm woefully bad about putting things in them. Enter, this little journal I created in 2008 (yes, 6 years ago) I really wanted to try the Raven's Claw binding technique, which was really fun, turns out beautiful and should really not be relegated to the back of a drawer somewhere.

The first prompt for the journal is Front Door. Well our front door has a beautiful stained glass window of a school of fish in the top, created by the previous owner of our little Cove in Oregon.

It's really hard to get a photo of the door from the outside because of the glare, but this one turned out fairly good. I started with a background of little squares cut from scraps, washed with Antique Linen distress paint to tone them down a little. Then I tore some corrugated cardboard into a rough rectangle; painted it with Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain and Antique Linen distress daubers and placed it on the background. My picture came next, placed with tan molding paste. Then I arranged some flowers and seashell diecuts around the upper left corner, added a door knocker and I think I'm done.

I think this will be a fun weekly project and hopefully one I can keep up with. Definitely need to do a better job of posting on my blog this year. Hope you enjoy the journey with me. It's going to be a fun year!

Happy 2014!

We had a wonderful holiday season this year and enjoyed so many fun activities with our family, I'm still working on scrapping the photos. Here are just a few happy, happy memories from the last 2 months.

It started with a great Thanksgiving gathering at my mom's house with cousin Ronda's family and sister-in-law Brenda's family. And the first ever Turduchen. It was delicious!

Then, we got to tag along with Brenda's family on their annual tree cutting outing to Candy Cane Lane. Cider, giant cookies and the perfect tree were all part of the festivities.

We made a quick stop at Snoqualmie Falls on the way to the tree farm. It was well worth the stop.

Some really tasty white chocolate dipped shortbread kicked off the cookie baking extravaganza this year, which included, buried cherries, maple yule logs, sugar cut outs, chocolate chip peanut butter carmel bars, grasshopper bars, scandinavian almond bars and german chocolate thumbprints.

We came back to the beach for a week in between the holidays. Paul and Heather joined us for a trip to Shore Acres Christmas lights show, The Hobbit, Shrek the Musical and this lovely morning walk on the beach.  And as you can see, Pepper had a blast!!!

And we finished up with a Christmas celebration with everyone at Brenda and Doug's, including Will, who flew up from Arizona for the week. Still have loads of pics to go through and scrap, but wanted to share a few of the memories from this special holiday season. Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2014 is just as good as 2013 was.

Wintry Aspen

I received the paper version of Club Scrap's December kit, Aspen, last week and finally got a chance to play with the gorgeous tree stamp that came on the unmounted sheet.  I just love the chalkboard technique from Tim Holtz's Creative Chemistry 102 class this fall and thought the stamp was a good candidate for the technique. Here's what I came up with.

I also tucked in the little half moon stamp from Aurora Borealis and added a popped up sparkly TH diecut deer. The base cs is from a winter Recollections paper pad.

Chalkboard and Sticky Powder

I know it's been awhile since I posted, but I have been in a gift making frenzy the last few weeks. Unfortunately, I won't be posting them here until after the holidays. Might have some sneaky visitors trying to get a peek at their present this year. (you know who you are)

I've also been catching up on the Creative Chemistry 102 class techniques that I didn't have supplies for and I can post those.

Here we have the Chalkboard technique, a new absolute favorite! Who woulda thunk it! and so easy too.

The next technique is the Sticky Powder technique. Another new favorite product. How come I didn't know about these things!?

The stamps are from Club Scrap's Retreat 2012 collection and Come Sail Away collection. The patterned paper is from their Fossils collection. And the above cards' red papers are from their Workbench collection.

Creative Chemistry Day 1 Eroded Metallic

I finally got some metallic Distress Paints. Wow! what a difference from regular metallic paint. Must be the reactive properties of the Distress that does the trick.

The first one is with the bronze metallic. Not the best photo, but it was the best of the bunch I took. It has a real sheen to it. I used Peeled Paint and Salty Ocean underneath and my new senior humor stamp from I Brake For Stamps.

This one uses the pewter metallic over Antique Linen and Salty Ocean. My favorite By the Seashore stamps from Club Scrap with one from a newer kit, Cape Cod. Love the grungy, industrial look you get with this technique.
